All in the Family: Which Fruits Are Part of the Citrus Family?

When it comes to the citrus family, which fruits are actually part of it? Learn more about citrus family fruits below, including their differences and benefits!

Did you know, 90% of Americans simply don't eat enough fruit or vegetables?

Adding delicious fruits and veggies to your diet is easy! Simply look for simple recipes online that are packed full of natural goodness like citrus fruit recipes.

Some of the best fruits to eat are part of the citrus family which provides you with benefits such as fiber and vitamin C to boost your immune system.

But, before you go shopping, let's look at which fruits are part of the citrus family.

1. Lemons

Perfect for adding to smoothies or gin and tonics, lemons like those grown from a fresh Meyer lemon tree are packed full of goodness but can taste a little tart on their own! They are a fantastic dessert ingredient, however!

Lemons boast a high quantity of vitamin C and fiber. They reduce your risk of kidney stones, cancer, and heart disease too.

Buy lemons from your local market or citrus grove, cut them up and freeze them. Then, every morning why not add a couple of slices of lemon and honey to a mug of boiling water for a refreshing, healthy pick-me-up?

2. Grapefruit

Humans only discovered this delicious fruit in the last three centuries. It may take some getting used to but boasts citrus fruit health benefits such as boosting your immune system and aiding weight loss.

It is also naturally low in calories. If you're not keen on grapefruit, try the juice first and add in a little honey as a sweetener. It'll take no time to enjoy the fresh taste!

3. Orange

This is one of the most popular and recognizable fruits in the entire world! It's delicious, easily transportable, and, yet again, a wonderful source of vitamin C.

It is packed full of antioxidants and will boost your heart health and digestive system. Furthermore, if you have problem skin, an orange a day could help sort it.

There are around five different types of oranges including the blood orange, navel orange, and mandarin orange.

4. Limes

This fruit is similar in many ways to the lemon aside from its green skin. Limes are grown on trees that can grow up to 15-20 feet. There are a few different types of trees that grow limes such as the Persian lime tree, the Australian finger lime tree, the desert lime tree, the kaffir (makrut) lime tree, and the thornless key lime tree.

By eating limes, you'll benefit from a reduced risk of heart disease and will aid the absorption of iron into your blood.

Why not add the juice of a lime to your morning breakfast yogurt or into a cup of green tea? You may choose to flavor your fish with lime or add it to tonic water!
